EveryBody's AEDs mission is to promote greater awareness of the safe, cost efficient and life saving equipment that is available for the treatment of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). SCA claims the lives of over 1,000 Americans every day. For us all to have a better chance of surviving a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, there must be greater coverage of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in Public places.
It's a fact that more than 80% of deaths caused by SCA happen away from medical facilities - at home, in the workplace, in the gym, on the playing fields, at school and even at the dentist. SCA is not a respecter of age or health. Young, fit teenagers have succumbed to SCA on the playing fields as well as fit men and women on the squash courts and golf course.A patient's chance of surviving SCA increase dramatically if they are treated with a defibrillation shock and effective CPR within 4 minutes of collapsing. Without it their chances of survival decrease dramatically; at 5 minutes their chances of survival are reduced by 50% and by 10 minutes their chances are almost nil.
